National Association of Social Workers Names Alyssia Hence Student of the Year

Please join us in congratulating McNair Scholar Alyssia Hence, who was named the National Association of Social Workers Student of the Year!  Under the mentorship of Dr. Celeste Hawkins, Alyssia's research examined the factors leading to African American student suspensions in the public schools.  As a result of her participation in the University of Michigan's Summer Research Opportunity Program in 2018, she will be listed as co-author on a peer-review article drawn from her team's research.

Alyssia is in her final semester and on track to graduate magna cum-laude.  We wish her well as she entertains offers from both Wayne State University and University of Michigan to continue her education in the field of social work.  We are exceedingly proud of Alyssia, and all who have supported her during her time at Eastern.  For additional information on Eastern's McNair Scholars program, please visit the McNair Scholars program website.
