Mark your calendars for the upcoming mini-conference, Bringing Theory to Practice, scheduled for January 26, 2018. The Bridging Our Divides campus dialogue series is a venue in which the campus community may explore issues regarding communication, community, and student learning across a wider range of stakeholders. The series is funded in part by a grant from the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). Detailed information will be provided in future communications.
Haven’t had your fill of HLC fun yet? Consider submitting an original piece of art illustrating the 2019 conference theme, "Roadmaps for Student Success." Students, faculty and staff from HLC accredited institutions are eligible to enter. Finalists chosen by HLC will be voted on by HLC’s membership in an online poll in mid-February, and the winning artist will be awarded $1,500. The contest deadline is February 9, 2018. Please spread the word to anyone who might be interested!
VISION, or more formally known as Volunteers Incorporating Service Into Our Neighborhoods, is dedicated to helping students, as well as staff, become actively engaged in service. Each year the VISION Volunteer Center displays holiday sharing trees from which volunteers may select a “tag.” Each tag represents a specific child with whom the Parkridge Community Center works. Volunteers then purchase gifts for donation this holiday season.
Please consider visiting one of these sharing trees located in the Student Center, Halle Library, and Pray Harold. The general guidelines are that volunteers spend approximately $40 per tag. If you’d like to pre-order tags, you may contact Becca Timmermans, Program Coordinator, VISION Volunteer Center, at [email protected]. Be sure to include your name, building, office number, and the number of tags you’d like to receive and the tags will be delivered to you! All gifts should be dropped off to VISION no later than December 5.
Our online campus map received an upgrade to include a filter showing buildings in which Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) may be found. I encourage everyone to review the safety maps posted in campus buildings to learn the specific location of safety features, including fire extinguishers, exit doors, alarm switches, AED locations, and shelter areas. Our facilities team has worked diligently to ensure all buildings are equipped with updated safety maps. However, if you are aware of any buildings that do not have the appropriate safety information posted, please contact Stacie McMullen at [email protected] or 734.487.9490 so that we may work to correct it immediately.
