Office of Research, Development and Administration Awards

Grant awards for September 2017 totaled just over $1.7 million!  Thanks to the following faculty and staff for your commitment to securing funding: Decky Alexander, Ethriam Brammer, Wayne Doyle, Chris Finch, Charles Graham, Allen Kurta, Heather Neff, Eric Paradis, Steve Pernecky, and Zuzana Tomas.

Wise Hall Open House

A reminder that the Wise Hall Open House is scheduled for Tuesday, November 7, 2017, from 3–5 p.m. Stop by for some light refreshments and get a sneak peak of the recently renovated residence hall.

Piano Sale to Benefit the School of Music and Dance

Engage @ EMU Open House

On December 8, 2017, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., [email protected] will be opening its doors at 203 Boone Hall to welcome students, staff, faculty and community partners, both past and present.  Attendees will enjoy food from local vendors as they learn how to engage with [email protected] 

Digital Marketing Workshop – November 17, 2017

A reminder that the deadline for registration for the Digital Marketing Workshop is November 12, 2017. The workshop is scheduled for November 17, 2017, from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Center.  The workshop features industry experts, Eastern faculty researchers, and students presenting their ideas on how you may improve your marketing skills across multiple search and social platforms.  Cost for the conference is $50 and includes breakfast and lunch. 

2018 Martin Luther King, Jr. Annual Awards Nominations

As part of our 2018 MLK Celebration, Eastern continues its tradition of recognizing individuals from within the University and surrounding community who exemplify the values and ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Each year, a key part of the celebration is the presentation of three awards at the MLK Day President's Luncheon, to be held on January 15, 2018. These awards include the:

  • MLK Student Scholarship
  • MLK Humanitarian Award
  • Evans-Strand Peace Award

 Nominations for these awards will be accepted through Wednesday, November 15, 2017 by 5 p.m. For a full description of each award and information on the application process, please visit Eastern’s MLK Celebration website.

Call for Academic Program Proposals: Eastern Michigan University’s 2018 Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration

The MLK Planning Committee invites proposals from faculty, staff, students, and community members for academic sessions to be offered on Monday, January 15, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.. that support the MLK Celebration theme of, Live the Legacy: Look Back, Be Present, Move Forward.

The Academic Programs Sub-committee will consider academic sessions that explore, analyze, or inform our understanding of Dr. King’s legacy; in particular, how individuals and groups have or are interpreting and responding to Dr. King’s mission to improve the world through equality, peace, and justice. Session content may explore the past, present, or future and address issues, challenges, and successes related to the 2018 theme.

Sessions of research-focused or relevant topics could be presented as a facilitated conversation, traditional panel discussion, individual presentation, lightning-round style presentation, or other presentation formats. Each selected proposal will be given a 50-minute time slot in the schedule of events on January 15, 2018, at either 9 to 9:50 a.m. or 10 to 10:50 a.m. 

Please submit your proposal via this Google Form by the November 10, 2017, submission deadline. The following information is required for submission: 250 word abstract, name(s) and contact information for all participants, and the connection to the 2018 theme. The 38th annual Undergraduate Symposium is scheduled for Friday, March 23, 2018.  We hope you will come and be a part of this day that celebrates the outstanding work of Eastern students.
