Congratulations to Ted Ligibel, Professor, Historic Preservation, on the publication of the third edition of HP: An Introduction to its History, Principles & Practice (Norton). Ted and his co-authors Norman Tyler, Emeritus Faculty of the Urban and Regional Planning Program, and Ilene Tyler, Director of Preservation in the Ann Arbor Office of Quinn Evans Architects, enjoyed the honor of their second edition being the most sold historic preservation textbook in the nation. Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) is Nursing's international honor society which encourages and recognizes nursing students whose scholarship and leadership set them apart. Eastern’s Eta Rho Chapter has been recognized by STTI in their Showcase of Regional Excellence for their work in supporting the organization’s mission of advancing world health and celebrating nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service. The EMU Women’s Association is holding its annual poinsettia sale to fund student scholarships. Last year, the association raised $4,000 for Eastern students. Help them surpass that number this season! The Office of Wellness and Community Responsibility is partnering with the Washtenaw Health Initiative to offer free Medicaid/Marketplace Open Enrollment Assistance to our Eastern students. At the event, participants will sit down with a certified enroller to explore various options and find the plan that works best for them. This event is free and requires no registration. Faculty who plan to participate in the Winter 2018 ceremony must inform their department head or school director by November 15 to ensure we have adequate seating at the ceremony. All commencement participants must attend the ceremony in academic dress. If you do not own regalia and need to rent a cap and gown, please place your order online. As part of our 2019 MLK Celebration, Eastern continues its tradition of recognizing individuals from within the University and surrounding community who exemplify the values and ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Each year, a key part of the celebration is the presentation of three awards at the MLK Day President's Luncheon, to be held on January 21, 2019. The MLK Planning Committee invites proposals from faculty, staff, students, and community members for academic sessions to be offered on Monday, January 21, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. that support the MLK Celebration theme of, We the People: Standing Against Injustice.
The Academic Programs Sub-committee will consider academic sessions that explore, analyze, or inform our understanding of Dr. King’s legacy. Session content may explore the past, present, or future and address issues, challenges, and successes related to the 2019 theme.
