Research Orientation and Luncheon for New Faculty
The Office of Research and Development (ORDA) welcomes new faculty with an information session on Friday, October 13, 2017, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Lake House. In addition to lunch and a panel discussion on starting your scholarly journey, faculty will receive information on ORDA support services provided for research and creative activity. Last Call for Nominations: 2018 Alumni Association Awards
It’s not too late to submit nominations for the 57th Annual Alumni Association Awards Ceremony. Four awards are bestowed each year: Outstanding Young Alumnus/Alumna Award, Alumnus/Alumna Achievement Award, Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna Award, and the Dr. John W. Porter Distinguished Service Award. Download the award criteria and application and submit your nomination by Friday, October 13, 2017.
Call for Academic Program Proposals: Eastern Michigan University’s 2018 Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration
The MLK Planning Committee invites proposals from faculty, staff, students, and community members for academic sessions to be offered on Monday, January 15, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.. that support the MLK Celebration theme of, Live the Legacy: Look Back, Be Present, Move Forward.
The Academic Programs Sub-committee will consider academic sessions that explore, analyze, or inform our understanding of Dr. King’s legacy; in particular, how individuals and groups have or are interpreting and responding to Dr. King’s mission to improve the world through equality, peace, and justice. Session content may explore the past, present, or future and address issues, challenges, and successes related to the 2018 theme.
Sessions of research-focused or relevant topics could be presented as a facilitated conversation, traditional panel discussion, individual presentation, lightning-round style presentation, or other presentation formats. Each selected proposal will be given a 50-minute time slot in the schedule of events on January 15, 2018, at either 9:00 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. or 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m.
Please submit your proposal via this Google Form by the November 10, 2017, submission deadline. The following information is required for submission: 250 word abstract, name(s) and contact information for all participants, and the connection to the 2018 theme. All those submitting a proposal will be notified of their proposal submission status by December 8, 2017. Fresh Thyme Farmers Market Partners with Swoop's Student Food Pantry
EMU and three Fresh Thyme locations -- Ypsilanti, Northville, and Canton -- are collaborating to collect food, supplies, and funds for Swoop's Student Food Pantry. Through October 15, 2017, all three locations will have tables where shoppers will receive a "top 10" list of items needed at the pantry that they can then purchase in the stores. Items will be collected at the stores and delivered by Fresh Thyme employees to the food pantry. Please consider supporting this community partnership by visiting Fresh Thyme this week.
