For Parents

The Holman Success Center provides academic support for currently registered EMU undergraduates. Our services are free and voluntary. Drop-in tutoring is available for students who are interested getting help as they need it. Supplemental instruction (SI) is offered in several large general education classes. We also have academic success coaches who work on a one-on-one basis to help students optimize their academic performance. Finally, all students in the 4S Select Student Support Services program are assigned to a peer academic coach. If your student is struggling with their classes or transitioning into college you should refer them to our office, located in room G04 of Halle Library.

You are your student's biggest supporter

At the end of a recent fall semester, students in UNIV 101L3 had the opportunity to reflect upon their first semester at college as part of their final projects. When asked to list the top 3 factors that supported them in achieving their goals, "Support system at home and family" was the number 1 response!

When asked to reflect on the challenges they experienced, students noted procrastination and lack of motivation, lack of time management skills, and mental health/anxiety/depression as the three biggest roadblocks to achieving goals.

Finding the perfect balance of support and challenge is difficult, but by checking in with your student regularly you can help them stay focused.

How does my student...?
