University Leader Scholarship Award Winner: Talia Edgar

Academic Support Programs and Holman Success Center couldn't be prouder of Talia Edgar for winning the University Leader Award Scholarship! Talia, a junior pursuing her degree in Secondary Education, is President of both the Bronze Beauties and Edge Advance student organizations, and has worked at HSC for more than 2 years as a UNIV SI, Supplemental Instruction Leader, and tutor.

Introducing Dr. Christine Deacons!
On February 1, 2019, Christine successfully defended her dissertation, "Student Success: A Multi-Faceted Analysis of First-Year Interventions." We're so proud of Christine, her hard work, persistence, and dedication to the success of all students at EMU.

- Drop-In Tutors reported 913 visits
- Supplemental Instruction sessions hosted 3,966 students
- Success Coaches and UNIV SIs held 1,084 meetings

"I presented at the National College Learning Center Association annual conference in Niagra Falls, NY in October. The session was about self-directed learning and student success. Also, I'm defending my dissertation on Friday, February 2 - 'Student Success: A Multi-faceted Analysis of First-year Student Interventions.' — Christine Deacons, Director Academic Support Programs
"I completed an MLK workshop at Alma College earlier this month. I also presented "Resistance to Racism and College Student Hashtag Activism" at The International Conference of Urban Education in the Bahamas last November. Finally, in April 2018, I won the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Pan African Network Sawubona Award!" — Dar Mayweather
"This Fall I presented at the Michigan Tutorial Association (MTA) annual conference on our SI program's new Online SI Academy Pre-Training. I was also elected Secretary to MTA's executive board. — Amelia Parnis
"Last October I presented at the National Conference on Students in Transition in Indianapolis. Next March, I'll be presenting on 'Training and Mentoring Mentors' at the Great Lakes Student Success Conference in Detroit." — Tracey Sonntag
