Online Support

Our plan for academic support in the Fall 2020 semester takes student and staff safety into primary consideration. All students are encouraged to consider meeting with their Success Coach and/or Peer Academic Coach virtually through Google Meet or Zoom. Both tools are free, accessed through your my.emich.edu account, and very simple to use.

The Eagle Study Tables area on the first floor of Halle Library will be open by appointment only to any student who wishes to use this space for study. A very limited number of spaces will be available, and all students in this space must remain seated at least 6' from all other persons.

HSC staff will be available Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM for students who need to check out materials from our Bottles for Books book loan program.

  • What is Google Meet?

    Expand dropdown

Google Meet is part of the Google suite that you have access to through your EMU account.

Google Meet allows you to set up an audio/visual (video optional) meeting where you can view information in real-time, have a live running chat, and more.

  • Do I have to buy or install anything to use Google Meet?

    Expand dropdown

There is nothing to buy or install; Google Meet is web-based, and most effective through the Google Chrome browser. It comes with your EMU NetID account.

  • Can I begin a Google Meet with another customer?

    Expand dropdown

Yes! Just log into your emich.edu email, and click the Google Apps button. It's just to the left of your profile picture in the upper right corner of your screen.

Select "Start a new meeting" and you'll see the link you need to share with your meeting participants.

  • What can I do in Google Meet?

    Expand dropdown

You can video-chat or share your screen with everyone else in the Meet. You can also allow other members in the Meet to "take control" and share their screens.

  • Is there anything else I need to know about Google Meet?

    Expand dropdown

It's a good idea to close any other windows or programs before you join a Meet. Remember that if you share your screen with others, they will see what you can see! Don't leave your private information visible.

Speak slowly and clearly. You may want to mute your microphone if you have more than three people in a single Meet. You can always use the text chat feature!
