Love Story: Robert and Julia Reneker

Names:  Robert Reneker, '88 and Julia (McLane) Reneker '88

Relationship Status:  Married

Anniversary Date:  Aug. 5, 1989

Do you have children? How many?  Yes, three.

How did you meet? Julia came to my room looking for my roommate. She needed an escort back from North Lot after she parked her van. He was on the escort list. He was not there but I was. I was in yellow sweats playing with a Lego toy I got from McDonald's for my nephew. Despite that, she let me escort her back from North Lot. We instantly became friends, we were both dating other people at the time. But a year later we started dating.

Where was your first date? First official date, took her to Tower Inn for dinner.

Any cute memories you have together at Eastern?  Other than how we met, we went to the Spaghetti Bender to watch the Hurons play Toledo. Win and we get into the Cal Bowl. She was not much into football at the time, so I had to explain the game to her. We did not know it at the time, but we were sitting next to a writer for the Eastern Echo. He wrote about the game the next day and he told about how I had to explain football to her.

What are the two of you doing now?
I am a family physician and work urgent care for Mercy Health in Grand Rapids. She works part time for a CPA.

Anything else you would like to share?
We still cherish our time at EMU even though we live on the other side of the state. I come annually for the Accounting Club golf outing as my best friend is also an EMU alum (and a former roommate). We went to the Bahamas last year to watch the bowl game. That was a blast.
