Matthaei Botanical Gardens (1800 N. Dixboro Road, Ann Arbor MI 48105) and/or Nichols Arboretum (1610 Washington Heights, Ann Arbor MI 48104)

  • Describe the position's primary tasks and duties.

Natural Areas Program groundskeeper helps with the ecological restoration of natural areas, trail construction and maintenance, the care of woody plant collections, the propagation of native plants and the care of native plant collections at Matthaei Botanical Gardens and/or Nichols Arboretum. Work may include planting and pruning of trees and shrubs, removal of invasive plants, the identification of native plants, collection of seed and other propagation work, and trail work. Personal transportation or ability to rideshare is required. Student will be working outside during the winter months so student must dress for the weather.

  • Describe the skills needed for this position ( e.g. able to tutor in middle-school math; able to lift heavy boxes,etc.).

Applicants should be able to engage in physical, out door work. Job requires occasional heavy lifting and operating equipment. Some plant knowledge is preferred.

  • Describe any attitude and/or behaviors necessary for this position (e.g comfortable working with the elderly; interested in youth development,etc.).

Must be comfortable working out doors in all weather types, including cold conditions. A love and appreciation of nature is always a plus!
