Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR-UP) is a competitive grant program of the U.S. Department of Education that focuses on increasing the number of students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education. GEAR-UP is dedicated to supporting underserved students as they transition from secondary education into higher education by providing critical early college awareness and intervention services like tutoring, mentoring, academic preparation, financial education and college scholarships.

GEAR-UP EMU provides services and support to certain public schools in southeast Michigan. The participating schools are selected by the Michigan GEAR-UP state office and include: River Rouge High School, Ypsilanti Community Schools,  and Lincoln Consolidated Schools.
