KCP College Day

The King-Chávez-Parks College Day (CD) Program is funded through the Martin Luther King, Jr. - César Chávez - Rosa Parks (KCP) Initiative [PDF] that aims to prepare 6th-12th grade students for higher education.  Specifically, this program focuses its efforts on supporting academically and socioeconomically disadvantaged students who otherwise might not have equitable access to resources and support. 

The KCP Initiative is dedicated to supporting underserved students as they transition from secondary education into college by providing critical early college awareness and intervention services like tutoring, mentoring, academic preparation, financial education and scholarships.

The College Day Program mission is to provide an opportunity for disadvantaged students to discover, first-hand, the potential of a college education and to expose students to the information, knowledge and skills they need to prepare themselves adequately for college entry and success.

KCP College Day on EMU's campus was formerly known as GEAR-UP EMU.  This branch of the KCP Initiative provides services and support to certain public schools in southeast Michigan, including Ypsilanti Community Schools and Lincoln Consolidated Schools, with the assistance of Eastern Michigan University's Academic Success Partnerships.

Our services have transitioned from in-person to remote online delivery per Governor Whitmer's Stay Home, Stay Safe executive order.

  Kaplan is offering a free month of SAT On Demand to support all students with their distance learning. Please share this information with your students during this time.  Students can sign up by clicking here.
