Academic Requirements for BrotherHOOD

The following academic requirements for BrotherHOOD scholars participants are designed to help make the transition into college a success!

Designated Courses

Scholars must enroll in the courses listed below during their first and second year. Each course counts towards general education requirements that every student at EMU must fulfill. 

First-Year

  • During the Fall Semester
    • MATH 110: Mathematical Reasoning
    • CTAC 124: Foundations of Speech Communication
    • ENG 120 or ENG 121: Composition II: Researching the Public Experience
    • UNIV 179L3: Introduction to the University (Taken as a cohort)
  • During the Winter Semester
    • LEAD 201: Introduction to Leadership

Second-Year  

  • During the Fall Semester
    • LEAD 301L2: Emerging as a Culturally Competent Leader

Study Tables

Scholars are required to fulfill 10 hours of study tables each week at designated study tables locations. During the assigned times students are expected to complete their homework and prepare for upcoming exams and course assignments.

Academic Coach Meetings

Scholars are required to meet with their assigned academic coach weekly during the Fall semester and bi-weekly during the Winter semester. During these meetings, coaches will sit down with scholars to discuss their progress from a wholistic approach, touching on seven key domains to foster student success.
