Eastern Michigan University

CAPS offers a variety of groups and workshops during the Fall and Winter Semesters.  In the Fall Semester of 2018 we will be offering the following groups.  Please contact the clinic for start dates and to see if you need to schedule an appointment for an intake before beginning group.

Understanding Self and Others

Fridays from 1-2:30 p.m. Start date to be determined.  Pre-screening is required for entry into this group.

Learn about yourself and your relationships with others in a safe environment. Understanding Self and Others (USO) helps you practice new ways to express your thoughts and feelings. Build self-confidence, increase your comfort in social situations, and challenge yourself to grow. To attend this group, you must first attend an intake appointment.  Please call 734.487.1118 to schedule, and let the front desk know you are interested in this group. If you would like more information about this group, please contact Dr. Jake Nienhuis at jnienhui@emich.edu

Coming Out/Being Out

Start date and time to be determined. Pre-screening is required for entry into this group.

This group is designed for students who identify as LGBTQAI or who are questioning their gender identity and/or sexual orientation to come together and discuss issues regarding the lifelong process of coming out, being out, sexuality, identity, and other topics. COBO is a therapy group in which members attend a group screening, commit to membership in the group, and meet on a weekly basis. This helps to ensure safety, connection, and consistency for everyone in the group. For more information please contact the co-facilitators Dr. Sharon Carney or Melina Tumpkin at CAPS at 734.487.1118 or by email at scarney@emich.edu or mtumpkin@emich.edu.
