    1. If you are interested in services for adults 60 years and older, please call (734) 487-8489 for more information.
    2. If you are a current student at Eastern Michigan University, please visit the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) website to review your eligibility for services and, if indicated, schedule an appointment. Note that CAPS does not offer neuropsychological assessment services. For those, go to (3) below.
    3. Otherwise, please complete a client application form (also see "Forms" below), based on whether the client is a Child or Adult.
      • Completion of this form does not guarantee services. Services are determined based upon clinician and supervisor availability.
    4. Wait for response. Services are not offered in the order requested. Student training needs and supervisor availability determine assignments. We cannot give an estimate of when you will be scheduled for an initial session. We can provide referral information to assist with immediate needs.
      • We will contact you at the beginning of each semester to find out whether you are still interested in services.
      • To schedule an initial appointment, Clinicians will contact you up to three times.
    5. If you're bringing a child in, please read this information about your child's assessment [PDF].

Services may be curtailed during University breaks.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Group

The DBT skills group is a classroom-like experience that teaches people how to improve relationships and manage difficult situations. Participants complete readings and engage in practice between sessions. Ongoing individual therapy is required for participation.

Groups meet once a week, typically at 5:30 or 6 pm. If you are interested, please complete the Adult Application Form and indicate your interest in DBT Skills. Please provide an email address. We review applications three times per year (January, May, and September) and will contact you for an initial consultation to see if the group is a good match for you. If so, you would complete an intake session including orientation to the group and a brief assessment before joining.

Written Exposure Therapy (WET) Group

WET is an evidence-based treatment that helps people better understand their reactions (e.g., thoughts, feelings, sensations) to traumatic events in a safe and supportive setting. Group members meet on Mondays from 6:30 - 7:45 pm to journal and engage in other experiential exercises. Between-session assignments are not required. If you are interested, please complete this Application Form and indicate your interest in WET. We will contact you for an initial consultation to provide more information and see if the group is a good match for you.
