Who We Are

Meet our summer consultants! Undergraduates who schedule consultations through WCOnline and graduate students and faculty who request consultations through our UWCGS Writing Support Request form (coming May 9!) will work with one of our summer consultants. 

Our University Writing Center consultants and workshop facilitators are able to help EMU writers with all aspects of writing, from understanding an assignment to revising and polishing the final draft. Each is uniquely qualified to support your writing needs. Learn about their writing experiences, academic backgrounds, and personal interests below.


Beth

Master of Arts, Professional Writing

Beth Sabo has been working at the University Writing Center since 2009. Though an English teacher by training, her love of the logic of science, her predilection for concision, and her ability to work with dense technical writing have contributed to her working predominately with students writing in the sciences and/or in graduate school. When she is not working, she spends time with her cat, Darcy.


Bryan

Master of Arts, Written Communication: The Teaching of Writing
Bachelor of Science, English Language

Bryan has been a writing consultant at EMU since 2014 and began serving as the University Writing Center Satellite Coordinator for the College of Health & Human Services in 2017. He is a part-time lecturer who teaches writing intensive classes in the School of Nursing, the Health Administration Program, and Game Above. Bryan enjoys working at the writing center because it gives him the opportunity to work one on one with students and to witness firsthand as they learn about themselves and grow as writers. In his free time, Bryan likes listening to a broad range of music genres (blues, rap, rock, classical, R&B, pop, folk, etc.) and going to concerts; spending time cuddling with his cat, Olivia, while watching Netflix shows like "The Umbrella Academy," "Stranger Things," and "Peaky Blinders"; going to museums; drawing and painting; and getting his geek on by regularly playing Dungeons & Dragons with friends.


Kim

Kim has been consulting and serving as Associate Director of the University Writing Center for more than ten years. She is grateful for the many wonderful teaching and learning opportunities that she has had at Eastern, including teaching first-year writing and the peer tutoring course and being trained in Reading Apprenticeship and Cognitive Coaching. She enjoys helping writers explore topics, develop ideas, and find their own voice in their writing. Outside of work, Kim likes to read, write, walk, garden, study at coffee shops, and spend time with family and friends.


Kristi

Master of Arts, Children's Literature

Kristi has been a consultant at the University Writing Center for four years, while she worked to complete both her undergraduate and graduate degree in Children's Literature. In addition to her work with the UWC, she is also a First-Year Writing Instructor. She loves to be a mom, read, write, learn, listen to podcasts and cross-stitch in her "free" time, as well as consult with a variety of different writers from the UWC, YpsiWrites, and the Washtenaw County Writing Center for Secondary Students.


Laura

Master of Arts, Literature

In addition to consulting with the UWC, Laura is a part-time lecturer in the First-Year Writing Program (WRTG 120 and WRTG 121) and in Nursing (NURS 300W). She began her career teaching English and history at the high-school level, moving to EMU in 2015 as a graduate assistant in Literature, the First-Year Writing Program (FYWP), and the University Writing Center (UWC). After graduation, she continued as a part-time lecturer in First-Year Writing and a consultant with the UWC. In 2019, she became an associate director of the FYWP. Laura's focus in the UWC is on working with graduate students, faculty, and nursing students. Her close work with faculty and graduate students has led to numerous publications and co-authorship of an article currently in press.
