More About the Program

  • CAT and MAT Programs

The CAT and MAT are accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education, CAATE.

Students entering EMU as a first-year student (or transfer student) will begin the CAT program. The CAT is a 3 + 2 program combining an undergraduate degree with a Master's of Athletic Training degree. Students will apply to the graduate portion of the program during winter semester of their third year. Students must meet specific requirements listed in the EMU catalog to apply to the Master's portion of the program.

If a student is accepted into the Master's portion of the program, they will begin taking coursework during the summer after their third year. Students in the CAT program will be considered undergraduate students for the Summer and Fall semesters of the year in which they apply. They will officially be considered graduate students during the Winter semester of the year after they apply. The final two years of the CAT require year-round coursework. When students graduate from the CAT program, they will be awarded a bachelor's and master's degree.

If a student has already earned a Bachelor's degree, they should apply directly to the Master's of Athletic Training program. Students applying to the MAT program must have completed all of the admissions requirements listed in the EMU catalog. Applications will be accepted beginning November 1. If students accepted, their coursework will begin in the summer semester immediately following their application. The MAT is a year-round program that is two years long (summer, fall, winter).

  • Athletic Training Centralized Application System

Athletic Training Centralized Application System (ATCAS) is a service provided by the CAATE to aid in the process of applying to athletic training programs. Athletic Training Students’ Organization

In 1986, an organization was formed for the athletic training students at Eastern Michigan University.
