Shawn Northrup is a part-time lecturer for the Eastern Michigan University Physician Assistant Program. In this role, she provides medical education and guidance to better support PA students as they transition into practice. She also works as a PA at Henry Ford Hospital and the VA, with a primary focus in urology. She works in a large procedure-based practice and performs clinical consultations.
Her professional goals are to encourage PAs to pursue hospital administration positions and participate in medical policy committees, while also improving patient awareness in the role of the PA and their contribution to healthcare. Defining the value of an experienced PA in providing cost effective care to patients is a growing need. This can be best conveyed to patients by advance practice providers (PAs and NPs) to encourage acceptance. Let's lead the charge!
