COVID-19 Updates

This web page serves to inform prospective applicants of the EMU Physician Assistant Program of the changes to the 2020-2021 application cycle as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and its effect on the program.

The following changes went into effect in April 2020 and will continue indefinitely, unless otherwise noted. Permanent program changes, such as application cycle and matriculation dates, have been updated on the program website. Be sure to refer to the extensive website for detailed program information and admission requirements.

New Application Cycle

September 1 – January 15

New Matriculation Date

Fall semester; the program will start annually in September

Pre-Admission Course Requirements

Grades

For winter 2020 semester courses only, we will accept successful Pass/Fail credit from EMU and from other accredited academic institutions to satisfy pre-admission course requirement(s).

GPA

Pass/Fail grades do not impact your GPA and therefore will not be calculated into your CASPA GPAs.

Course Completion Deadlines

At least five of the seven pre-admission courses (including associated labs) must be completed at the time of application. This includes the grades appearing and being verified on the CASPA application. All seven required pre-admission courses must be completed by June 1 of the year entering the program (e.g. June 1, 2021 for those starting the program in September 2021).

Each pre-admission course must be successfully completed within 10 years prior to September enrollment. For example, for those applying to start the program in September 2021, all pre-admission courses must be completed more recently than September 2011. All pre-admission courses must fall within this time frame.

  • For the 2020-2021 application cycle only, the program will accept pre-admission courses completed more recently than May 2011.

GRE

The GRE General Test is required of all applicants and may be taken at home. More information is available here.

TOEFL

If you are required to take the TOEFL iBT test, you may take the special home edition test. More information is available here.

Unofficial Transcripts

Because a significant number of international secondary schools and universities have been closed, making official transcripts difficult to maintain, we will allow the use of unofficial transcripts for admissions and tabulation purposes for Fall 2021 admissions only. Students will have one semester upon matriculation at EMU to produce official transcripts in order to continue registration and enrollment.
