EMU Physician Assistant Program Policies Related to COVID-19

This web page serves to inform current students and prospective applicants of the EMU Physician Assistant Program of the programmatic changes instituted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Be sure to refer to our extensive website for detailed program information and admission requirements.

COVID-19 Vaccination

EMU Students

EMU students must either (1) be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and report their status through EMU’s Vaccine Certification system or (2) undergo weekly COVID-19 testing. Please note that there are no accommodations available from the weekly testing requirement based on medical necessity or sincerely-held religious belief because students who are required to test have chosen to do so in lieu of vaccination. More information on EMU’s vaccination/testing requirement for students with in-person classes and activities can be found here

EMU PA Program Students

A number of local health care systems, including Trinity Health and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Ann Arbor, have made the COVID vaccination mandatory for all employees, health care providers and medical learners. Without proof of vaccination or accommodation, EMU PA students cannot participate in learning activities at the St. Joseph Mercy Simulation Center, St. Joseph Mercy Anatomy Lab, clinical rotations on a Trinity Health Campus or any health care system that requires COVID-19 vaccination. Please note that successful completion of the anatomy lab, simulation lab, and all clinical rotations are required to progress through the EMU PA Program. If a student decides not to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, they must acknowledge that if the program cannot place the student clinically, or the student does not complete the anatomy lab or simulation activities at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, the student will not be able to graduate from the program due to the inability to meet program requirements.
