EMU Physician Assistant Program Policies Related to COVID-19

This web page serves to inform current students and prospective applicants of the EMU Physician Assistant Program of the programmatic changes instituted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Be sure to refer to our extensive website for detailed program information and admission requirements.

COVID-19 Vaccine

As we prepare to move forward into the Fall Semester 2021, the EMU PA Program would like to update current and incoming students about COVID-19 vaccinations. The EMU Physician Assistant Program strongly recommends that all students enrolled or about to enroll in the program obtain a complete COVID-19 vaccine by August 30th, 2021.

As you may have seen in the news and social media, a number of local health systems, including Trinity Health and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Ann Arbor are now making COVID vaccination mandatory for all employees, health care providers and medical learners. Without proof of vaccination or proof of exemption, EMU PA students cannot participate in learning activities at the St. Joseph Mercy Simulation Center, St. Joseph Mercy Anatomy Lab, clinical rotations on a Trinity Health Campus or any health care system that requires COVID-19 vaccination. Please note that anatomy lab, simulation lab, and all clinical rotations are requirements to complete the EMU PA Program. If a student decides not to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, they must acknowledge that if the program cannot place the student clinically, or the student does not complete the anatomy lab and simulation activities at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, the student will not be able to graduate from the program due to an inability to meet program requirements.

If you have already received your COVID-19 vaccine, please submit your proof of vaccination into the CastleBranch system along with your other required immunization documentation (see CastleBranch for specific instructions). The Johnson & Johnson/Janssen, Pfizer-BioNTech, and Moderna vaccine are all currently acceptable vaccinations.
