The Becker Family at the unveiling of the newly named clinical suite

On Wednesday, July 20, EMU’s College of Health and Human Services had the pleasure of introducing the newly renovated Otto and Lucille Becker Clinical Suite. The suite was named in honor of the Becker family on behalf of their unwavering support and donations to the college.

Over the years, Becker Orthopedic has generously contributed their time, supplies and money to the Orthotics and Prosthetics program at EMU, improving the quality of education our students receive. The most recent donation, $50,000 to the Orthotics and Prosthetics Development Fund, sparked the naming of the clinical suite. This extraordinary gift on behalf of Becker Orthopedic will be used to enhance the entire student experience and better prepare future practitioners.

“We are delighted that Becker Orthopedic and the Becker family were able to make sure a generous donation to our program. Becker has long been know for professionalism, education, and excellence, all qualities we strive for here at Eastern. While we endeavor to teach our students all aspects of orthotics and prosthetics, patient care is at the core of what we do. The Otto and Lucille Becker Clinical Suite allows our students to interact with patients in a professional setting, while still under the direct supervision of our faculty,”

-Wendy Beattie, CPO, FAAOP Clinical and Program Director Masters of Science in Orthotics and Prosthetics

Since it was founded in 1933, the Becker family has owned and operated Becker Orthopedic, an orthotics and prosthetics manufacturer in Birmingham, MI. The clinical suite at EMU was named after the founders of Becker Orthopedic, Otto and Lucille. The company is still a family business and is owned by their son, Rudolph B. Becker III, and daughter, Ingrid B. Haughton.

“Thank you for the incredible job you have done bringing the EMU program to where it is today. It’s an extraordinary facility, I can’t tell you how impressed I am. The clinical suite is fantastic and I really appreciate having that space named in honor of my parents,”

-Rudy Becker, President and CEO of Becker Orthopedic

The two-year Orthotics and Prosthetics masters program at EMU is nationally accredited. This unique program is one of only a dozen such programs in the country. Check out the video below to learn more about EMU’s Orthotics and Prosthetics program.

EMU is incredibly thankful for the gift from Becker Orthopedic. Dedicated and updated space is continually needed to train EMU’s students. There are many naming opportunities for individuals and corporations at the university; naming recognition begins at the $10,000 gift level.
