Marsha began her career in public health education, working at the AIDS/STD Clinic at the Washtenaw County Health Department. Since 1993, she’s worked at University of Michigan, University Health Service, in Health Promotion and Community Relations, now called Wolverine Wellness. Marsha was in charge of alcohol/other drug prevention for a number of years, offering workshops, developing social marketing campaigns and leading the brief intervention work beginning with Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS).
Since 2019, she’s managed the Wellness Coaching Program for the University of Michigan (alcohol/other drugs, relationships/sexual health, eating/body image, sleep and general wellness), training and supervising 30 staff and graduate student coaches. She’s also the lead trainer in UM Student Life for Motivational Interviewing. Marsha has been part of the international Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) since 2010 and her favorite thing to do is teach this approach--especially to college students! She’s been co-teaching with Matt Statman at EMU since 2013.
