Biography

Brian M. Scruggs is a lighting, sound, and scenic designer with an MFA in Lighting Design from Wayne State University’s illustrious Hilberry Repertory Theatre.  Currently, Brian is an Associate Professor at Eastern Michigan University teaching in their Entertainment Design and Technology program.  Brian’s passion is cultivating young theatre minds into the next great wave of theatre artists.  Professionally, Brian has worked extensively in the Detroit area at theatres including the Detroit Repertory Theatre, Tipping Point Theatre, Williamston Theatre, and the Michigan Shakespeare Festival to name a few.  In 2012, Brian was awarded a Wilde Award for his lighting design of The Winter’s Tale for the Michigan Shakespeare Festival’s 2011 season. In 2023, he and his wife were finalists in the Kentucky Theatre Association’s Roots of the Bluegrass New Play Festival for their play Not From Around Here.
