Anne of Green Gables

Anne of Green Gables is a contemporary telling of the spunky literary classic. Written by Sylvia Ashby and based on the book by L. M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables shares the story of middle-aged spinster Marilla Cuthbert, her bachelor brother Mathew and their unlikely family addition, Anne Shirley. Having requested a boy to help work their farm, stern Marilla and shy Mathew are shocked when the orphanage sends them instead a freckled, red-headed, lively young girl full of big ideas and lots of words to express them.

Set in the early 1900s in Avonlea, on Prince Edward Island in Canada, Ashby’s play covers a four-year span in the life of Anne as she transforms from rebellious youth to charming young woman.

Full of warmth and wit, Anne of Green Gables (non-musical version) will be directed by Christine Tanner and performed in the Quirk Theatre on December 4, 5, 10, 11, 12 at 7pm and December 6 & 13 at 2pm, with school matinees on December 8 & 9 at 10am. Recommended for audiences ages 6+.
