harvey Merchant of Venice mock

By Mary Chase

Directed by John Seibert

Lighthearted, comedy classic

Good-natured, eccentric Elwood Dowd is well known in his small town for venturing about with his best friend Harvey...who just so happens to be a six-foot tall invisible rabbit. Worried about the embarrassment of Elwood’s antics and the negative impact on her social standing, his sister Veta and her daughter decide to have him committed to a sanitarium. As Veta explains the situation to the staff she unravels, assumptions are made and chaos ensues. Once the tangled truth is sorted out everyone begins a frantic search to find Elwood, who shows up at the sanitarium of his own accord while looking for Harvey. Love and understanding win out in the end of Mary Chase’s delightful, Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy.
