Danielle Monit, MS, MSHROD

My story is a bit different and didn’t start out like many others. Throughout my undergraduate program my focus was on Technology. I even received my first master’s degree from EMU in Technology Studies. As life progressed, I found myself working with technology but more in an HR role. I knew that HR systems were becoming increasingly more popular and decided that if I wanted to excel in HR Information Systems, I had to get a baseline understanding on exactly what being an HR professional meant. During my time in the Masters in Human Resources and Organizational Development program from Eastern Michigan University I was able to work with many other HR professionals and outstanding faculty who guided me and pushed me along in the path of Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS).  HR is so far behind the technology curve that hiring an HRIS position to manage any implementations, configurations and upgrades allows for other HR employees to focus on what they do best and not worry about how to fix things inside the systems. The MSHROD program is what helped launch my career in an area that not many know exists!

I am immensely proud of my Masters in Human Resources and Organizational Development from Eastern Michigan University, and couldn’t be more grateful to top-notch faculty and staff associated with this program at the College of Business. The professors truly saw my value as an HR professional and pushed me along in my path to greatness. Along the way, it became clear to me that my MSHROD education gave me an “edge” over others in the field. The foundation of knowledge and strategic perspective gained from the MSHROD program consistently lent itself to elevating my career. Today, I am a Human Resources Manager, SHRM Senior Certified Professional, and a leader of our company’s Women’s Committee with no intention of slowing down. The MSHROD program and people I met along the way were my guiding light to a brighter future.

"After researching many graduate programs in the field of HR, my decision to pursue the MSHROD at EMU was easy. EMU stood out from the rest with its unique mix of both HR / business management and organizational development content, along with the capstone project that not only provided a learning opportunity for me but a valuable project deliverable for a client organization. Additionally, the faculty in the MSHROD program are fantastic subject matter experts with significant business experience outside of the classroom, which really helps frame the material in a context that is better understood and remembered by students. My MSHROD degree has been a critical part of my development as a business leader!"

"Earning my MSHROD from Eastern Michigan University provided real work experience in a variety of areas of Human Resources. At times, I was able to complete projects for work through projects for my classes that allowed for meaningful progress both personally and professionally. Attending classes on-line and on Saturdays in Livonia allowed me to focus on my career and my educational needs simultaneously, while still being home with family in the evenings. Through group projects, I met other professionals who I consider lifelong friends and colleagues in my community. The HROD curriculum not only prepared me for the next step in my career, but also complemented my studies for my professional certifications. Anyone who is interested in a career in Human Resources would benefit greatly from this experience!"
