Program Information

Under the award-winning MSHROD program, you can undertake a traditional, two-year master’s degree or one of two graduate certificates.

Program Goals

  • Identify, plan, implement, and manage change as staff professionals or managers or external consultants
  • Match organizational and human resource needs and implement systems related to structure, process, and most important, the people in organizations
  • Link human resource management and organizational development by implementing processes to improve organizational effectiveness

For the MSHROD program, you'll take 30 credit hours for the degree, plus some students may require up to 12 credits of prerequisite/foundation courses, for a total of 42 credits. Most students are able to finish the degree in two years.

Related Programs

For those interested in human resources, management or organizational development, there are several related programs. For instance:

  • Graduate Certificate in Organizational Development is a five-course, 15 credit curriculum made to teach you concepts like the theory and techniques of organizational development and organization design and strategy. The program is designed with the hope to prepare you for the organizational development field, whether you're just starting or making a transition within the field.
  • Graduate Certificate in Management is made up of five courses and is designed to prepare you to enter the management profession or to effectively transition into a managerial role via classes such as negotiation and influence applications and international management.
  • Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management is a program of 15 credits designed to ready you for entering or transitioning into the HR field. The program hopes to accomplish this by offering courses in employment law, management in unionized settings, and strategic human resource management, amongst other things.
  • Human Resources & Organizational Development Program In China is a joint program with the Tianjin University of Commerce in China. Students graduate with an EMU MSHROD Degree and are taught by faculty from EMU and TJUC.
