Kristine Oudsema, MST Candidate
When I returned to school for my Master of Science in Taxation degree at EMU, I was apprehensive because my bachelor's degree is in chemistry. However my plan of study in the MST program prepared me well for a career in tax accounting. The coursework gave me a basis in accounting and taught me the practical and theoretical aspects of taxation. The faculty have diverse professional backgrounds providing different viewpoints.
Outside the classroom, the College of Business offers many opportunities for career development such as networking events, career fairs, on-campus interviews and student organizations. By joining a professional student organization, Beta Alpha Psi, I had the opportunity to coordinate the volunteer income tax assistance program which has given me practical experience preparing tax returns as well as working with community agencies in the area.
I am confident that the MST degree at EMU has provided me with a comprehensive and practical knowledge of tax law, tax accounting and tax procedure which will enable me to be successful in the field.
