Endowed Chairs

The College of Education has two endowed chairs; the first college at EMU to have an endowed chair. These chairs allow for an annual appointment of a faculty member, an external faculty member, or anyone who whose work supports the mission of the College of Education and the goals of the Porter or Morris Chair. The Morris Chair assists the College of Education in achieving its vision of playing a leadership role in transforming education. The Porter Chair assists in expanding the College and University’s role in urban school districts in Michigan, with an emphasis on school-community partnerships.

The specific activities undertaken by the chair must fit within the separate program guidelines and further the strategic mission and goals of the College of inspiring, educating, and preparing undergraduate and graduate students to become outstanding educators, leaders, and scholars in urban, global and diverse educational and community settings. The ways the Chairs do this are very open ended and invite innovative and enriching proposals.
