Biography

Dr. Clyde Barnett, III is the founder and executive director of Discover Without Barriers, an educational leadership consulting company. As a consultant, he directs qualitative research projects for K-12 schools, colleges and universities, and government agencies while providing leadership development and professional learning. As an educator, Dr. Barnett serves as a faculty member and coordinator of the undergraduate leadership program in the Department of Leadership and Counseling at Eastern Michigan University. Dr. Barnett’s experiences and education have positioned him to work towards transformative change, and he hopes to influence such change through teaching agency and advocacy, centering student and community voices, and enacting equitable policies and practices.

Student and community voice implications for K-12 schools and higher education policy and practice; academic and organizational advising practices in education; critical leadership theories including transformative leadership and culturally responsive leadership; qualitative methods including autoethnography and storytelling; youth and community-focused action research; implications of race, class, gender, and sexuality in education for minoritized communities.
