A message from Interim Dean Shawn Quilter

One of the joys of living in the beautiful state of Michigan is watching the seasons change. This is particularly true on our campus, where years of beautification and maintenance efforts are really paying off. If you haven't been on campus lately, I would like to extend the invitation to visit us in the College of Education, located in the John W. Porter Building. If you would like to schedule a tour of Porter, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
As we prepare for the 2014-2015 academic year, I'd like to take this opportunity to share recent College of Education news with you, our alumni and friends. There have been a number of changes that have taken place recently, and we anticipate more during the summer and upcoming academic year.
Many of you already know that Dr. Jann Joseph has accepted the position of executive vice chancellor for academic affairs at Indiana University South Bend (IUSB). Dr. Joseph begins her appointment at IUSB on July 1, 2014 and we wish her much success with this new endeavor, and thank her for her courageous leadership during her tenure at Eastern Michigan.
In the meantime, I will serve as interim dean for the College of Education (effective May 21, 2014 through June 30, 2015). I am humbled by this leadership opportunity and honored to work with the faculty and staff of the College. The Provost's Office will begin the search process to fill the dean's position this fall, with a permanent appointment beginning in the summer of 2015.
In this edition of the College of Education Newsletter, you will read about the 100-year celebration of our special education program at EMU. We'll also update you on our international outreach activities, tell you about our new leadership minor for undergraduates and share news from the Brehm Center for Special Education Scholarship and Research and the 2013-2014 John W. Porter Chair in Urban Education. And, we wouldn't want you to miss the important accomplishments section about some of our outstanding students, faculty, staff and alumni.
Thank you for your continued support of the College of Education.
Shawn Quilter, Ph.D.
Interim Dean, College of Education
