Meetings

The International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES) has been sponsoring a quinquennial world congress--called the ICAES--since 1934.

The first ICAES at which COER sponsored an official program of presentations was the 14th, held in Williamsburg, USA, in summer 1998. At this congress COER organized a series of foundational sessions, detailed under COER Program at the 14th ICAES.

The latest ICAES at which COER sponsored an official program of presentations was the 16th, held in Kunming, China, in summer 2009. See details under COER Program at the 16th ICAES.

In the interval between subsequent ICAES, the IUAES sponsors smaller thematic conferences: the IUAES Intercongress meetings. COER sponsors the organization of presentation sessions at all of the IUAES-sponsored events, and has participated in the Intercongresses held in Beijing, China (2000), Goettingen, Germany (2001), and Tokyo, Japan (2002).

Beginning in 2006, COER also regularly organizes an International Colloquium, which brings together a small group of world scholars to address ethnic-relations topics related to public policy issues. The 1st International COER Colloquium was held in Florence, Italy, July 7-9, 2006, under the title "Addressing Ethnicity: Theory, Practice, Policy".
