Eastern Michigan University wishes to welcome all graduating students and their guests to the commencement ceremony and strives to ensure that they can participate fully in the event. If, as a graduating student or guest, you have any concerns about disabilities or medical issues that may require accommodations in order to participate, please contact William Pollard at 734.487.4600 to discuss best options.
Accessible parking spaces are available in the Convocation Center Lots B and C and the Rynearson Stadium lot. Please note, parking in these areas fills up quickly. To park in these spaces, a properly issued disability parking placard or license plate must be displayed. The disability parking placard or disabled person car license plate are issued by the State and not by EMU.
Disabled parking fills up quickly. Keep in mind that you may be dropped off in the circle drive in front of the Convocation Center. Shuttles are also accessible.
Courtesy Shuttle Service
EMU provides complimentary shuttle service to and from the Rynearson and Convocation Center parking lots. These shuttles run from an hour prior to the event until 45 minutes after. Pick up/drop off points are the circular drive next to entrance A and near entrance C. Please plan to arrive early If you need accessible parking or the use of the shuttle.
Sign Language Interpretation
Two American Sign Language interpreters will be present during the commencement ceremony.
Assisted Listening Devices
Assisted listening devices are available for loan at no charge from the Ticket Office. A driver’s license, credit card or other acceptable form of photo ID is required as a deposit. ALD’s must be returned within 30 minutes of the end of the event.
Wheelchair-accessible entrances at the Convocation Center are located at Entrance A, Entrance C and Entrance D.
At commencement, the Ticket Office will provide escort service for those patrons needing wheelchair assistance. Due to the high demand for the wheelchairs during this event, the Ticket Office Event Staff will escort the patron to and from their seating area so that they may use the wheelchair to assist other patrons.

Accessible Seating for Guests
When ordering tickets for Commencement, please specify when accessible seating is required. The accessible areas are often monitored, requiring special tickets. During commencement, there is a large demand for the accessible seating areas and a patron may be limited to only one (1) companion in the accessible seating areas.
All restrooms in the EMU Convocation Center are accessible. The Men’s rooms are located on the East and West sides of the center and the Women’s rooms are located on the North and South sides of the center. There is also a Men’s and Women’s room on the North side with a baby changing station.
There is a private room available for nursing mothers near Section 109 of the Convocation Center. To have the room unlocked please see an EMU Event Staff member or ask at the Main Ticket Office in the Atrium.
