Ceremony Information for Faculty
Returning Rented Regalia
Please return rented doctoral and faculty regalia directly after the ceremony to the EMU Campus Bookstore representative in the faculty robing room before you leave.
Interested in Helping Out?
A successful commencement relies on the efforts of many volunteers. Faculty support for students at commencement is particularly meaningful. We welcome faculty attendance and faculty serving as marshals. Faculty also participate as doctoral student chairs (helping in the hooding of their graduating doctoral students.) To volunteer for commencement, please contact William Pollard at email@example.com or 734.487.3600.
Marshals are solicited on a rotation from schools and departments, however, anyone wishing to serve should email firstname.lastname@example.org. Read a brief description of marshal duties [PDF] or watch the marshal training video (16 min.) of the training session done before each commencement.
Doctoral Student Chairs
Doctoral student chairs who wish to participate in the commencement ceremony will process in and sit with the students they will be hooding. At the appropriate time in the ceremony, you'll accompany each student to the stage ramp and assist the associate vice president of Graduate Studies and Research with hooding. There's some training possible on the Friday before the Commencement date and some shortly before the ceremony. Watch the doctoral student chairs video (4 min.) of one of these training sessions.
Name readers announce the names of the graduates as they begin to walk across the stage. Read a brief description of name reader duties and logistics [PDF].
