Theory & Application

The Computer and Electrical Engineering Technology (CEET) major at Eastern Michigan University is designed to prepare students to apply scientific, computer, electrical, and engineering knowledge; combined with technical skills, in support of computerized activities.

Graduates generally apply the theories and principles to design, analyze, produce, operate, program, and maintain computers, networks, electrical and embedded systems.  In addition, the curriculum includes the study of engineering database management, web development, sensors, Internet of Things (loT), and artificial intelligence.

 

About our Program

Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is a profession in which knowledge of mathematical and natural sciences is gained by study, experience, and practice. It is applied analytically to develop ways to utilize economically the materials and forces of nature for the benefit of mankind. An engineering program emphasizes theories and advanced mathematics.

Computer and Electrical Engineering Technology (CEET) is a profession in which the application of engineering knowledge and scientific methods, combined with technical skills, are used to support computerized engineering activities. An engineering technology program emphasizes hands-on application and implementation. In some situations, engineers and technologists can share the same responsibilities. Computer hardware designers, software engineers, and engineering database developers have
job functions that both the engineers and the engineering technologist can perform with equal success.

Program Educational Objectives (PEO) are goals for our students after they graduate and enter the workforce.  The Computer and Electrical Engineering Technology (CEET) students will be able to:

  • Graduates will advance as applied engineers in computer and electrical systems, eventually becoming leaders in their respective sectors.
  • Graduates will have a positive influence on society, will act ethically and responsibly, and will be reflective about societal issues such as economic and environmental issues.
  • Graduates will continue to learn and adopt new concepts in their fields of interest by pursuing graduate degrees, position in academia, industry, or government, and participation in apprenticeships.

    Student Outcomes (SOs)
    After graduating, our students will possess expertise in the following areas:

  • an ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
  •  an ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
  •  an ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
  •  an ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes; and
  • an ability to function effectively as a member as well as a leader on technical teams.

  • Requirements for Admission

    The major is open to any undergraduate student. You should meet with a Computer and Electrical Technology (CEET) advisor, both before selecting the major and throughout the study. If you are a transfer student, an advisor can help you do a preliminary assessment of the credits that can be transferred.

  • Points of Interest

    Both day and evening classes are offered in Computer and Electrical Engineering Technology (CEET) program. Small classes afford you the maximum opportunity to interact with your classmates and teachers. Most courses involve laboratory assignments that provide hands-on experience. The CEET program is seeking the accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The program reflects the rapidly changing information age and is guided by an advisory committee of industrial professionals.

  • Opportunities for Employment

    The computer and electronics play an ever-increasing role in all engineering disciplines. Computer engineering is a profession, which is one of the fastest growing occupations according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Computer and Electrical Engineering Technology (CEET) graduates apply the theories and principles learned in designing, analyzing, producing, operating, programming, and maintaining computer systems. With additional study of communication systems, sensors, digital & analog systems, microprocessors, engineering database management, web development, networks, and artificial intelligence - graduates are employed in industry as computer/electrical engineering technologists, embedded hardware/software engineers, and engineering information system developers.  The CEET program offers you the opportunity to prepare for rewarding and responsible careers in support of technical and engineering activities in business and industry. The program leads to a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in engineering technology.
