(YPSILANTI, Mich. Jan. 5, 2016) - “Handles” Franklin will be available to media on Monday, Jan. 11 from 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. as part of an advanced ambassador tour. The schedule on Monday is attached and includes stops at Eastern Michigan University, Sidetrack Bar and Grill, Saline Heritage (Elementary) School, and the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.
“Handles” studied hard and went on to Lock Haven University (Pa.), where he used his keen ball handling ability to earn second on the school’s all-time assist list and fifth on the all-time steals list. He finished in the top 10 in the nation in assists and steals twice in his college career. He holds the Guinness World Records® for the farthest kneeling basketball shot made backwards: 60’ 7.5”.
“Handles” will visit Saline Heritage School for a presentation regarding the ABC’s of bullying. He will then make an appearance at Sidetrack Bar and Grill for the featured Globetrotter Burger. The U of M Hospital will host him to visit the recreational therapy department with some of their patients. The tour will end at EMU’s Roosevelt Hall for the celebration of both the Harlem Globetrotters and Roosevelt Hall’s 90th Anniversary, accompanied by EMU ROTC cadets.
Among the events scheduled at each stop is the Smile Patrol™, which delivers memories that will last a lifetime – brightening the day and lifting the spirits of some very special fans unable to attend a Globetrotters game.
“Handles” will start with some information about himself and the Globetrotters, and then might play a quick listening game before diving into “The ABCs of Bullying Prevention” presentation. The Globetrotters designed the program in coordination with the National Campaign to Stop Violence (NCSV). The program focuses on Action, Bravery, and Compassion, comprising the ABCs.
