About CiP
The EMU College in Prison (CiP) program provides those incarcerated at Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility (WHV) the opportunity to puruse a Bachelor's Degree from Eastern Michigan University. Students can earn a Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) degree allowing them to focus on their goals and passions while also capitalizing on their previously earned academic credit.
We offer courses from across the College of Arts & Sciences as well as other Colleges. Our offerings include courses in Counseling, Creative Writing, Economics, History, Management, Philosophy, Social Work, Africology and African American Studies, Art, Biology, Communication, Criminology, Literature, Political Science, Sociology, Urban Planning, and Women's and Gender Studies.
We also provide wrap around support including financial aid assistance, academic advising, curricular and program oversight, mentoring, technology tutoring, textbooks, and school supplies.
