With over 165 years of experience in educating educators, Eastern Michigan University Professional Programs and Training (PPAT) provides nearly 100 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs in education. We also provide opportunities for professional development and State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) for educators and administrators. Taught by our award-winning faculty, these courses get you what you need for re-certification and help you advance your career.
What We Can Do
Open Enrollment Training
PPAT brings EMU’s expertise in educational excellence to teachers, administrators and other professionals working in K-12 or higher education environments. Non-credit classes and symposiums in topics of interest to education professionals are available throughout the year. Find a complete list of courses and training dates on our registration site.
State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs)
PPAT works closely with the Michigan Department of Education to provide SCECHs non-credit continuing education courses that meet state guidelines for teachers. Each educator needs 150 SCECHs every five years in order to renew their teaching certificate with the Michigan Department of Education. Our programs include topics appropriate for pre-K as well as K-12 educators.
We partner with the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Education, and the College of Technology at EMU, as well as other educational entities, to process program applications for SCECH approval through the State of Michigan. Contact Julie Newland at firstname.lastname@example.org or 734.487.4926 for a program application.
Our Track Record
Over the past 15 years, EMU has offered more than 325 SCECH programs for teachers in topics such as Supervision of Student Teachers, Building Strong Urban Schools, Holocaust Conferences, Eastern Michigan Writing Project: Writing Teachers’ Leadership Institute, Project Lead the Way: Robotics and Children the Next Generations.
