Washtenaw County/Eastern Michigan University Legal Resource Center
The Washtenaw County/Eastern Michigan University Legal Resource Center is a non-profit charitable organization. The goal of the Center is to provide legal information to community members who cannot retain attorneys in certain civil and domestic matters. The Center is funded by Washtenaw County and Engage@EMU but additional funding is needed through donations and grants. Donations are processed through the Eastern Michigan University Foundation, a nonprofit organization that manages donations for EMU and EMU-partnered programs.
The Legal Resource Center assists an average of 200 patrons each month.
Approximately 50% of the Center's patrons reside in the Ypsilanti area.
Approximately 95% of the Center's patrons reside in Washtenaw County.
The EMU Paralegal Studies Program is the only university program in the country that sponsors an attorney-supervised legal clinic for its paralegal students.
The Center is able to provide legal forms that are only available on-line to members of our community who lack computer access.
