The EMU Testing and Certification Center offers high quality testing services by licensed proctors in a controlled, secure and professional environment. The Center supports the university's strategic efforts to ensure student success and program innovation by administering certification and licensure, distance learning, credit-granting and pre-employment exams for EMU students and those in the Southeast Michigan region.

  • Pearson VUE Professional Certification/Licensure

    Many disciplines and fields require industry-recognized certifications. The Testing Center offers professional certification and licensure exams through Pearson VUE, which requires specific space, privacy and security specifications for such testing. Available programs include: Michigan Teacher Certification, Microsoft, National Strength and Conditioning Association, Pharmacy Technician Certification, Python Programming, CompTIA and Cisco.     Scheduling a Pearson VUE Exam

    Professional certification and licensure exams are scheduled and paid through the Pearson VUE website. Simply type the name of your program or professional exam sponsor in the "Start here: select your program" bar. After you have selected the exam, choose EMU Testing Center to view our schedule and book the exam. Information on directions and parking can be found here.

  • CLEP College Level Placement

    Current and upcoming undergraduate college students can take College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests at the Testing Center. Provided by the CollegeBoard, this program allows students to demonstrate their mastery of introductory college-level material and earn college credit. A full list of CLEP exams available can be found at the CollegeBoard website. A list of exams accepted for credit for EMU students can be found on the EMU catalog. Anyone can take a CLEP exam at the EMU Testing & Certification Center regardless of the school you attend.

    Scheduling a CLEP Exam

    Registering for a CLEP exam is a two-step process. Students must first register at the CollegeBoard website. There are 33 exams available. Choose the exam needed and pay the $93 exam fee. You will receive a test ticket after registering for the exam. Students must then schedule their exam at the EMU Testing Center. Go to our EBill website and pay the $25 proctoring fee and indicate which CLEP exam you are registered for. Also indicate the date and time you wish to take the exam. Test start times can be booked every 15 minutes from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on exam dates unless noted differently below. Tests must be booked one business day prior to the chosen exam time.

    Bring the test ticket you received from CollegeBoard to your exam. Directions to the Testing Center and information on parking are located here. Cancellations must be received at least two business days prior to your scheduled testing time; email [email protected] to cancel. Only the $25 proctoring fee will be refunded. CLEP registration tickets are valid for six months.

  • HiSET High School Equivalency

    Out of school youth and adults can take the HiSET exam to demonstrate the skills and knowledge of a high school graduate and earn a state-issued high school equivalency credential. The HiSET exam is an alternative to a high school diploma and a passing score will result in a high school equivalency credential being issued by the state of residence for test takers.

  • TEAS Nursing School Admission

    The TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) is designed specifically to assess a student's preparedness for entering the health science fields. Passing the TEAS is a key component of admission for nursing and allied health schools. Anyone can take the TEAS at the EMU Testing & Certification Center regardless of the school you are applying to.

    Scheduling the TEAS

    The TEAS can be scheduled through the ATI Testing website. Select the EMU Testing & Certification Center to access our schedule and book the exam. Exams are offered weekly throughout the year but typically can only be scheduled two months in advance.

  • Distance Learning/Academic Exams

    If you need to take an academic exam for an instructor or college course, the Testing Center can administer the exam. Call 734.487.4746 or email [email protected] to inquire about open dates for academic exams, technical requirements and proctor fees.

  • Microsoft Office Specialist Certification

    Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification is the leading IT certification in the world. Demonstrate you have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to productively use Microsoft Office. MOS enables you to tap the full features and functionality of the Microsoft Office system, resulting in heightened levels of individual performance, confidence, and differentiation.

    Scheduling a MOS Certification Exam

    Registering for a MOS Certification exam is a two-step process. Testers must first purchase an exam voucher at the CertiPort website. There are 19 exams available for Office 16 and Office 19 software and Microsoft 365 apps. A voucher can be used for any MOS exam. Testers must then schedule their exam at the EMU Testing Center. Go to our EBill website and pay the $25 proctoring fee and indicate the specific exam and the date and time you wish to take the exam. Test start times can be booked every 15 minutes from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on exam dates unless noted differently below. Tests must be booked one business day prior to the chosen exam time.

What's Next?

The Testing Center is currently working with EMU colleges and departments to identify testing certifications that best meet our EMU students' wants and needs. For those tests and certifications not offered by Pearson VUE, the CollegeBoard or ATI but of interest to programs and departments, the Testing Center coordinator will work with such areas to locate licenses in order to offer the requested testing and certifications. Traditional classroom group exam proctoring can also be done at the Testing Center for a fee.
