EMU Testing & Certification Center
The EMU Testing and Certification Center offers high quality testing and certification services by licensed proctors in a controlled, secure and professional environment. This supports the university's strategic efforts to ensure student success and program innovation by administering certification and licensure, distance learning, credit-granting and pre-employment exams for EMU students and the Southeast Michigan region.
The Testing Center is located on the garden level of Boone Hall, in the G05 computer lab. Click on the quick links to the right to schedule an exam right away or read on to see which certifications and exams are available and when.
Many disciplines and fields require industry-recognized certifications. The Testing Center offers professional certification and licensure exams through Pearson VUE, which requires specific space, privacy and security specifications for such testing. EMU developed a testing site, so our students and community members can receive these testing opportunities on campus. Available programs include: Michigan Teacher Certification, Microsoft, National Strength and Conditioning Association, GED Testing, Pharmacy Technician Certification, Python Programming, CompTIA and Cisco. A full list of exams and programs can be found here.
Scheduling a Certification or Licensure Exam
Professional certification and licensure exams are scheduled and paid through the Pearson VUE website. Simply type the name of your program or professional exam sponsor in the "Start here: select your program" bar. After you have selected the exam, choose EMU Testing Center to view our schedule and book the exam. Directions and parking information are located here.
College Level Placement
Current and upcoming undergraduate college students can take College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests at the Testing Center. Provided by the College Board, this program allows students to demonstrate their mastery of introductory college-level material and earn college credit. A full list of CLEP exams available can be found here.
Scheduling CLEP Exams
Tests can be booked every 15 minutes from 9:15am to 2:45pm on exam dates.

Students must also register to take the exam at the EMU Testing Center. Go to this website and pay the $25 (twenty-five) proctoring fee and indicate which CLEP exam you are registered for. Bring the test ticket you received from College Board to your exam. Directions to the Testing Center are located here. Cancellations must be received at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled testing time. Contact information is at the top of this page. Only the $25 proctoring fee will be refunded. CLEP registration tickets are valid for six months.
What’s next? The Testing Center is currently working with EMU colleges and departments to identify testing certifications that best meet our EMU students' wants and needs. For those tests and certifications not offered by Pearson VUE or the College Board but of interest to programs and departments, the Testing Center coordinator will work with such areas to locate licenses in order to offer the requested testing and certifications. Traditional classroom exam proctoring can also be done at the Testing Center for a fee.
For faculty: Complete this brief survey to let us know which certifications are needed for your students.
