The mission of the Faculty Development Center is to promote excellence in teaching, learning, and scholarly activity - all of which are impossible to have if EMU faculty and lecturers are not confident in their instructional skills. Thus, we aim to assist EMU instructors in their efforts to create impactful learning experiences for the EMU campus community and beyond. Through this list of curated resources, we intend to provide instructors with a wide array of resources that supports their instructional and teaching skillset.

  All services are provided in a strictly confidential manner.

  The Faculty Development Center offers confidential, one-on-one, or group consultations on teaching and research to all instructors and faculty across the university. Through these consultations, we aim to support EMU faculty advance in their teaching, scholarship, and professional development goals. Further, each consultations will be individually designed to meet your teaching, learning, and research needs.

• EMU's College in Prison Program Expand dropdown

  A wide variety of college courses have been offered  at the Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility (WVH) as part of EMU's College in Prison program. These courses have been by EMU faculty volunteering their time, including classes in Africology and African American Studies, Anthropology, Biology, Creative Writing, Criminology, Economics, English Literature, History, Psychology, Social Work, and Women’s and Gender Studies. 

  Their offerings have been on hiatus since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and they hope to resume offering courses in Fall 2022.

• New Faculty Learning Community Expand dropdown

  In monthly meetings, we will discuss how to get your EMU career off to a successful start.  We will explore how to work through (and embrace!) challenges in teaching, how to get your research agenda off to a good start in conjunction with your other responsibilities (with special emphasis on applying for internal research awards), and how to serve the institution without letting service take over your life.

  You can report an incident to the Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response Office by one of the following four (4) options:

  Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex under any education program or activity receiving federal financial aid. Sexual assault and sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination prohibited by Title IX.
