The Bruce K. Nelson Faculty Development Center strives to connect faculty and staff with the appropriate offices and resources to help with all things technology. In recent years, we have been shown just how quickly entire institutions can move online. Keeping this in mind, we want our faculty to feel that they have the necessary tools and information to help them service their students whether that be in-person or virtually. This page features our curated list of university-wide resources and contacts to help you get the technology answers and assistance when needed.

  Instructor Support with Canvas

  For Canvas tech questions, call the Canvas Help Desk Instructor Line at 833.277.2150. They are available 24/7 and provide excellent support.

  For instructional design support email the Center for E-Learning at [email protected].

  We have partnered with E-Learning to create a page that meets faculty no matter where they are at on their journey to using Canvas!   Tech support is available by pressing the Support button on the VoIP telephone located on the classroom's cart. Support hours for Spring and Summer Semesters are:

  • Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
  • Friday 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
  • Saturday 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

• Computer Refresh and Purchase Expand dropdown

  The Division of Information Technology provides you with several options to keep your computer equipment current:

  Departmental Use

  • Computer Refresh Program (CRP) - eligible participants may select a standard Dell desktop computer every 4 years at no cost to their department.  Departmental cost sharing and pre-approved special order models are also available.
  • Purchasing a Computer (Non-CRP computers) (and peripherals) - standard models can be purchased from Apple or Dell.
  • Cascade computers (previously-used computers) - available for departmental shared use and for an employee who is not eligible for the CRP.

  Personal Use

  Computers can be purchased from the manufacturer for personal use at an academic discount:

  • Apple
  • Dell

• Department Computer Repair Expand dropdown

  The IT Help Desk offers computer repair for EMU owned computers. The Help Desk will refer departments to fill out the Financial Commitment From Departments for Computer Repair form to pay for replacement parts.

  There are two ways to request Division of Information Technology (IT) services, depending on the type of request being made:

  1. Technical Incidents and Standard Change Requests
     The IT Help Desk acts as a hub for reporting technical incidents (i.e., a reduction in quality; an interruption in service; a failure of service) or requesting a standard change (e.g., a security access upgrade). To report an incident or request a change, contact the I.T. Help Desk at 734.487.2120 or submit the request via our I.T. Service Portal.
  2. I.T. Project Request
     Use the I.T. Project Service Request for development of a new or significant enhancement to existing business processes (e.g. automatons, customizations, integrating systems, Ellucian / Banner extended systems, reporting).

  In the My.Emich Faculty Services tab, Faculty will find services to help manage their classes and students, and Faculty Advisors will find services needed to advise students.
