New Student Welcome

EMU Welcomes New Students, Fall 2012

Eastern Michigan University welcomes you to your new campus and your new community. Moving in to campus housing and/or attending classes at EMU for the first time? To make your introductory experience as great as possible, we've assembled the following list to help you prepare.

  • The opening of the school year requires a bit of patience! You may need to visit several offices in different buildings on campus, or you might find the occasional line as we work to process thousands of unique requests for service. Please know that everyone is trying to accomplish the same things--and it will all get done. Remember that it's not a race; there's enough of everything for all our new students. And wear comfortable walking shoes!
  • Lines You might find the occasional line as we work to process thousands of unique requests for service. Please know that everyone is trying to accomplish the same things—and it’ll all get done. Remember that it's not a race; there's enough of everything for all our new students. And wear comfortable walking shoes!
  • Help will be available. Dozens of volunteers will be on campus to help you with everything from moving your belongings into the residence halls to finding your way around campus and finalizing the details of your records and registration. Friendly EMU Public Safety officers will also be on the job. All the volunteers and staff are friendly and will be very noticeable, clad in EMU garb or uniforms, so please, if you need anything, ASK US!
  • There will be heavy traffic on campus. Thousands of new students and their families will be on campus for opening weekend. You can expect our friendly public safety officers to be visible around campus and directing traffic near the residence halls. You can also watch for lawn signs and other temporary signage to help point you in the right direction. Relax and go with the flow.
