A Century of Service

Honorable, dedicated, and compassionate are just a few words that describe Russell Woinowsk.
Russell Woinowsk
At 100 years old, Russell is a father, grandfather, great grandfather, neighbor, friend, war veteran of both WWII and Korea, and proud EMU alumnus.

Russell joined the ROTC in high school and eventually he moved on to the National Guard. Two years later, he committed to the Army. Russell completed 16 missions in the Korean War and remained in the air corps before retiring at the rank of Lt. Colonel with four Air Medals.

Following Russell’s service, he then returned to college to earn his master’s in teaching. He spent 21 years shaping the minds of students, 20 of which were spent at Romulus High School. Another true indicator of Russell’s dedication is that he waited until the maximum retirement age of 70 to retire as an educator.

Each and every year since 1982, Russell has loyally given to EMU. Many times he gave more than once per year to the various areas of the University he felt passionate about. Russell is an example of the commitment our students rely on, year after year.

Russell has dedicated 100 years to helping others, and we are proud to be a recipient of his lasting generosity.
