Taking Great Risk Panel Discussion, July 28, 2018

Panelists discussed the 50th anniversary of black students taking over Pierce Hall—and the events leading up to that day—during a discussion at Halle Library on July 28, 2018. The panel was moderated by Ron Woods, a professor in the Department of Africology and African-American Studies.

Professor Ron Woods, Africology and African-American Studies, moderated the July 28 panel discussion. Woods has been at EMU since 1976.

University Archives has newspaper accounts of the 1969 protests, but much of the narrative is from the University’s point of view. The panel discussion held on July 28, which was also videotaped, gives greater context to the circumstances surrounding the Feb. 20, 1969 takeover attempt.
