Education

  • Ph.D., Paleontology/Sedimentary Geology, University of Rochester, 1990

  • BS, Geology, University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, 1984

Interests and Expertise

My research activities focus on two separate but broadly overlapping areas: Paleontology and Stratigraphy. My work in Paleontology examines the early evolution of macroalgae and co-evolutionary relationships between macroalgae and early animals before, during, and after the Cambrian Explosion. My work in Stratigraphy focuses on the sequence stratigraphic architecture of Ordovician and Silurian strata within and around the Michigan Basin. To carry out my research program, I have traveled to many parts of the world, including Europe and China, and have collaborated with scientists from many countries. Details about my research, conducted with support from the National Science Foundation, can be found at the link below.
