2023 History Alumni Awards: Call for Nominations

The History Section of the Department of History & Philosophy at Eastern Michigan University is excited to announce that it will honor two of its most accomplished alumni with awards this spring. Friends of the History Section are invited to submit nominations. Any graduate of the History program is eligible, including those who received a bachelor’s degree (major or minor) or master’s degree in History, Social Studies, or Religious Studies from EMU.

Two awards will be given: a Young Alumni Award and a Distinguished Alumni Award. The Young Alumni Award will go to a person who graduated within the last ten years, and whose achievements have been signified by personal honors or recognition given to them by their peers and who have demonstrated the value of their education through post-college achievements. The Distinguished Alumni Award will go to a person who graduated more than ten years ago, whose achievements in their chosen field have been recognized, who have demonstrated service to others and maintained a continuing interest in and support of Eastern Michigan University and the History Section.

The EMU History Community Board will collect nominations and determine the winner. The Community Board is made up of EMU History alumni, friends, and faculty.

The Young Alumni Award will be a cash prize, and the Distinguished Alumni Award will be an item of value. The awards will be provided by members of the Community Board and other friends of History. To support the alumni awards fund, please donate to the History Alumni Development Fund.

Nominations are now being accepted. Nominations are due by Wednesday, March 8, 2023. The awards will be given at the History Honors Reception on April 12, 2023.
