Dr. Narayanan is a professor in the department of Computer Science. Her interests are in the areas of databases and software engineering. Her research focuses on database design and software design. She has presented on the topics of knowledge modeling, Unified Modeling Language (UML), Object-oriented and CAD/CAM databases, data warehousing, and NoSQL databases at various conferences. She is an Academic Service Learning (ASL) fellow and a Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) fellow. She served as an administrative intern in the provost's office in 2009.
Dr. Narayanan has served as a planning committee member for the Michigan Women in Computing (MICWIC) conferences, since its inception in 2009. She has been actively involved in recruiting and retaining women in computer science. She has started a Women in Computer Science (WiCS) club at EMU. She coaches and leads a middle school science olympiad team.
Prior to coming to EMU, Dr. Narayanan worked for Ford Motor Company for three years, holding different positions such as KBE (Knowledge-Based Engineering) specialist, project manager, and systems analyst.
