Biography

Dr. Eisenberg has worked in Honors education for over 30 years. Prior to her arrival at EMU in August of 2019, she served in a variety of academic and administrative roles at The University of Texas at San Antonio: Professor of Psychology, Director of the Office of Scholar Development, Associate Dean of the Honors College, Director of University Honors Programs, Director of the McNair Scholars Program, and Director of the Career Opportunities in Research Program. Throughout her career, Dr. Eisenberg has had the opportunity, privilege, and thrill of mentoring multiple generations of university students. She also has received grants from the Department of Education and the National Institutes of Mental Health to establish research training programs for undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds, and she has earned multiple awards for excellence in university service, for mentoring and service to undergraduates, and in support of diversity.

As a psychologist, Dr. Eisenberg published work on the influence of gender, culture, and socioeconomic status on family interaction patterns and received grants from the National Institute of Health and Child Development and the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented to pursue her work on cultural differences in maternal teaching strategies and the development of gifted youth.  In 1990, she was selected as a participant in the W.K. Kellogg National Fellowship Program. As a Kellogg Fellow, Dr. Eisenberg examined the relationship between urban universities and their communities and had the opportunity to travel in Europe, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.

Following the 2003 death of her husband, Dr. Eisenberg raised two young children on her own. She is now the proud parent of two emerging adults, Rachel, a journalist with the ABC News show Nightline, and Adam, an underwriter with Chubb Insurance in Chicago. In her spare time, Dr. Eisenberg maintains an active presence on social media to connect with 30+ years of former students and is proud to have her own student-assigned hashtag, #DrEProbz, in recognition of her ability to turn life’s hassles and challenges into humor.
