Meet Our Students
The Honors College seeks to foster diversity and excellence in academia. Honors students come from all majors and departments at EMU and include transfer, traditional, and non-traditional students. They are athletes, first generation college students, research assistants, and international students. Read about some of our amazing and unique students below!
Chayna Brunner is a junior pursuing a major in Psychology and a minor in Social Work and Communications. She is from Toledo, Ohio and will be graduating in Summer 2018. She enjoys going to the classes at the REC-IM, going to the movies, and learning how to cook. Chayna was encouraged by her professor, Lacey Hoffman to apply for The Honors College. She is a Peer Advising Student Fellow, and a member of the Black Honors Student Organization and the NAACP. After graduation, she plans on pursuing a Master’s Degree in Social Work , or working in a clinic at a psychology lab. Her most meaningful Honors experience was presenting at the Honors Induction Ceremony.
Joey Magnuson is a student from Fremont, Ohio, studying Graphic Design. He will be graduating from Eastern Michigan University Fall 2017. In his spare time, he enjoys playing video games, board games, and roller skating. Joey decided to join The Honors College since he had taken advanced classes in high school. The Honors College provided him more opportunities for critical thinking. Joey is an executive board member for QUEST, a Campus Life graphic designer, as well as the Comics and Puzzles editor for the Eastern Echo. After graduating, he plans on staying in the Ypsilanti area and design for local businesses in Washtenaw. His most meaningful Honors experience was taking part in the Annual Stratford Trip to see the arts.
Lauren Renou is a graduating senior completing a major in Communications with a minor in Leadership and Marketing. She is originally from Troy, Michigan. Lauren is also a Student Assistant at the Board of Regents, a Student Fellow Program Coordinator, and the President/Founder of The Way Campus Fellowship. Her most meaningful Honors experience has been working as a Student Fellow the last four years. Her professional experience has helped her to grow in ways that she didn't even know were possible. Lauren’s time in Honors has been her favorite experience at EMU, and she wouldn't trade it for the world.
Brianna Moore is a graduating senior studying Sports Performance and Fitness Entrepreneurship with a minor in Entrepreneurship. She is from Cleveland, Ohio and will be graduating Winter 2017. After graduate school, Brianna hopes to be working in her planned career as a personal trainer. She is also involved with the Student Services for Student Government as the director, a Mentor for The S.E.L.F. Project, NAACP Member, SisterHOOD Ambassador, and a Peer Mentor for the Holman Success Center. Her most meaningful Honors experience was getting to know new people. She is grateful for the different connections she has made within the Honors Community.
